Are you supposed to get the traffic speed sign there also?
I can't get in and wondered what I was doing wrong

Yes, you do get speed sign recognition providing it is built into the firmware of your car, can't remember if this facility was across all models.

If you are asking whether you get speed signs on the maps, as you get with standalone Tomtom products, this facility is not available.
